The tourist office is at Iskele Meydani, also known as Baris Meydani, near the castle, across from the Iskele (ferry port). It is open from May to September, from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
Public Transportation
Taxis
Up until the beginning of this year
taxi rates in most cities throughout Turkey were based on whether you were traveling by day or night. The rates vary by city. The taxi rates in Bodrum as; Taxi opening meter rate is 3 TL and then 3,7 TL is charged for every kilometer thereafter, after 3 minutes waiting charges 0,37 cent every per minute. Additionally, if you are taking a taxi from the airport to the provinces, a flat rate is charged.The rates are posted on free-standing billboards by entrance to the arrivals building.Also, once in town and you travel from one province to another, you can request and bargain for a flat rate.
Minibuses
The most cost efficient way to travel around the provinces in the Bodrum peninsula is by minibus. All depart from the bus terminal in the city center, where you can hop on a minibus to any provience in Bodrum. During the peak summer season, minibus services are available to most of the major provinces(i.e. Yalikavak,turgutreis, göltürkbükü) into the late hours of the evening. Prices vary according to destination- starting at 2,5 TL / person, one way.
Car rental
The best and flexible way to travel around the Bodrum peninsula is by renting a car. There are many reputable car rental companies servicing this area. However, instead of trying to find your way around, we suggest that you also hire an experienced driver from the car rental company. The cost is minimal when compared to the rest of the world. This way, you don't have to worry about finding your way around or “drinking and driving”.
Driving in Bodrum...
Simply put – if you are drinking. Don't drive! Then again, even if you have not consumed any alcohol, still be very careful when driving in the Bodrum peninsula. Daily Tours
You have the best chance to see and swim in Bodrum's beautiful bays by taking a boat trip.These shared-vessels begin their tour at 11:00 am and take you to the bays and islands.Some of the boats serve lunch, some of them don't.You can have your lunch break in one of the excellent restaurants in the bays.Daily tours will take one of two possible direction.One way is to Oraklar and the other way is to Karaincir.When you return Bodrum around 6:00 pm you will have acquired priceless memories.
Tipping
All restaurant checks include VAT, but the vast majority of eateries throughout Turkey do not include tips as is common in most european cities. when the tip is not included, a %10 tip is the norm.If you feel you have recieved extra service,feel free to tip more.
Recommended tip for bellhops is 1,5 TL/suitcase and 2,5 TL/night for the housekeeping staff.
you don't have to tpi taxi drivers, the only time a tip would be appropriate is if you have luggage and the driver has asisted you with them, but need not exceed 1,5 TL per suitcase
Banks and ATMs
All banks are open on weekdays between 9:00am and 5:00pm with most open during luch hours.Also some banks branches are open on saturdays.You can exchange foreign currency and traveler's cheques; however bank exchange rates are lower than at foreign exchange exchange bureaus.With a valid credit or debit card, you can get cash advances at most ATMs.The systems they use are posted on the ATM.Some banks also allow you to withdraw US dolars and euos and the .ATM is clearly marked with this information.
Economy
The abundance of visitors has enlivened Bodrum's retail economy. Among one of the top leisure activities in Bodrum there is shopping. Leather goods, particularly for traditional woven sandals are well known products in this town.
Brand new golf courses are currently being designed and built on the Bodrum peninsula. In these days golf is picking up momentum in Turkey. The golf resorts are eager to attract visitors and also largely unspoiled by mass tourism. Except from golf, yachting, boating, swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving are also main diversions.
